HOUSTON — After recording the second triple-double in Rice history, Max Fiedler was named the Conference USA Player of the Week, the league announced Monday afternoon.

It is his first career honor and he's the second Owl to earn the award this year, joining Quincy Olivari who has earned it twice (Dec 5 and Dec. 19).

Fiedler helped Rice to a road sweep, averaging 21.0 points, 8.5 rebounds and 7.5 assists while connecting on 80.0% from the field. He opened the week by having a historic game, recording just the second triple-double in school history and the 21st in Conference USA history. He scored a season-high 24 points on 12-of-14 shooting with 13 rebounds and a career-high 11 assists to bring the Owls back from an 18-point deficit and defeat UTSA, 88-81, in overtime. He was the first Division I player in the last 10 years to have a 20-point triple-double while connecting on 85% from the floor.

He followed that up by scoring 18 points on 8-of-11 shooting with four rebounds and four assists in a 72-60 victory at North Texas, helping the Owls score the most points against a North Texas team since the 2021 NCAA Tournament. With his performance, he became the NCAA's season leader in field goal percentage.

Rice returns home on a three-game winning streak when it faces Charlotte this Thursday, Jan. 26. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. and the game will be streamed by ESPN+.
