Rice defensive lineman Ikenna Enechukwu is one of 109 football student-athletes nominated for the 2021 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team®, as announced on Wednesday by Allstate and the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA).

Now in its 30th year the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team® recognizes exemplary community service, alongside academic dedication and impact on and off the field.

Enechukwu heads into his third season as part of the Owls main rotation along the defensive front having played in 16 of the last 17 games and making three starts. He was third on the team in 2019 with 4.5 tackles for loss.

Of the field, he has been one of the most active Owls in the campus community.  He is the current chair of the Student Association Athletics Committee and a site leader in the Urban Immersion project which introduces incoming students to the principles of civic leadership, ethical community engagement, and to the City of Houston with the guiding mission of fostering the growth of informed and passionate advocates for social justice. He is member of the Black Male Leadership Initiative, the Rice African Student Association and the Rice Athletics Pre-Medical Society.  He also volunteers at Houston Methodist Hospital and had a project selected to be featured in the Undergraduate Research Symposium this past spring.

The final 22-member team and honorary coach are selected by a voting panel of former Allstate AFCA Good Works Team members and journalists. They look for players who demonstrate exceptional leadership on and off the football field. Driphus Jackson of Rice was a member of the 2015 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team
